High School: How It Works
Xceed students will complete a typical sequence of coursework during their high school years including three or four courses in core subject areas such as English, math, science, social studies, and foreign language. Regular and honors tracks are offered for many core courses. Students may also choose from a wide selection of electives such as Journalism, Java programming, Introduction to Culinary Arts, and Psychology.
Students and parents are provided with a pace chart that allows them to see the scope and sequence of the topics that will be covered in each course as well as assignment due dates. High school students should plan on working on course work for 25-35 hours each week when taking 5 or 6 courses simultaneously. If a high school student is enrolled in Advanced Placement (AP) courses, an additional 5 to 10 hours of study time may be needed. Students are required to check in weekly with each subject area teacher; however, students should anticipate meeting with teachers more frequently depending on their needs, course schedule, AP course work, and involvement with peer group sessions.
Several clubs and organizations are offered to high school students who have special interests outside the curriculum, want to develop leadership skills, or who want to connect with other Xceed Anywhere students.
